Governor Proposes Bottle Bill Expansion

Get Details At NYSABC Meeting On Wednesday Evening February 27 At The Coral House In Baldwin

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, Governor Cuomo announced that he will be proposing expanding coverage of the “Bottle Bill” to sports drinks, energy drinks, fruit and vegetable beverages and ready-to-drink teas and coffee, as well as making other as-yet-unspecified changes to the bottle bill.

The proposal also would ban single-use plastic bags across the state.

The changes will be part of the state budget, which means they will be fast-tracked, with a vote likely by April 1.

The text of the Governor’s proposal is not available yet, so we don’t know what other changes are included, though a DEC spokesperson told us the proposal does not include a handling fee increase. We’ll circulate details as soon as we have them.
